External Affairs Co-President:
Ashley Morris

Ashley Morris is a fourth-year political science major and music minor. She became involved in civil liberties activism through her enthusiasm for racial justice and LGBTIQ equality during her high school years in San Diego. Ashley plans to pursue a Master’s degree in public policy in the future, and she would like to continue to be involved in the non-profit sector. Ashley began her involvement in the Berkeley ACLU as the Drug Policy Division Director. She also served for a year as the Secretary. Ashley was also heavily involved in the 2005 campaign against Proposition 73, the Parental Notification Initiative. Ashley plans to dedicate her fall semester, at least until November 7th, to the campaign against Proposition 85. Though she is interested in a wide range of civil liberties issues, Ashley is most passionate about women’s rights, LGBTIQ rights, drug policy, and issues relating to government abuses of power in a post-9/11 world.

Internal Affairs Co-President:
Ally Amerson
Ally Amerson is a third-year political science major, seeking minors in music and conservation and esource studies. She grew up in Waukesha, Wisconsin—located on the serene Fox River—and began her civil liberties activism in the conservative, small-town setting. In the future, she plans on working on Northeast African sustainable development and the promotion of a strong civil society. Ally also wants to open a small Taiwanese food cart on the corner of Bancroft and Telegraph that would sell various cheap, Taiwanese street food items. She believes this is her market niche. Ally also dreams of being an astronaut, a Broadway singer, and a paleontologist. Ally is most passionate about the civil liberties issues that relate to racial justice, specifically dealing with the area of equitable educational and employment opportunities. She is also very interested in the relationships between the racial justice division and the drug policy and death penalty divisions. Other important issue areas for Ally are immigrants’ rights and privacy rights—including protection from illegal government searches and seizures especially in the open-sourced-globalized digital world.

Treasurer:

Max Besbris is a third-year double majoring in sociology and linguistics. Originally from Los Angeles, Max hopes to eventually receive his PhD in sociology and become a professor. During his first year at Cal, Max served as the Berkeley ACLU Racial Justice Division Director and the Education Coordinator/DE-Cal Facilitator. Max's primary civil liberties interests include free speech, post-9/11 freedoms, reproductive rights, and of course, racial justice.

Anum Tariq
Anum Tariq is a third-year political science major from Fremont, California. She previously facilitated the Berkeley ACLU DE-Cal as the Education Coordinator. She hopes to go to law school after she graduates from Cal and become an attorney. Communications Director:
Tasha LoPorto
Tasha LoPorto is a second-year student at Cal, double majoring in environmental science and political science. She plans to become involved in environmental law in the future. This is Tasha’s second year in the Berkeley ACLU. Previously, she has been involved in the Women’s Rights and Death Penalty Divisions. In addition to her role as the Communications Director, she is also serving as the Death Penalty Division Director this year. Tasha is super excited for this year and looks forward to hanging out with new and old Berkeley ACLU members and kicking off a fresh year with a lot of ACLU spirit!
